Chili

We’ve made it our goal to show you that healthy food CAN also be delicious. Once a month, we’ll be sharing mouthwatering, delicious recipes that you can make right at home using ingredients available at your local grocery store.

Plus, every recipe comes with a fun food fact about one of the ingredients used. Let’s get right to it with one of our favorites…chili!

The Recipe

3.5 oz. lean ground beef
½ cup water
2 tablespoons minced red or green onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
Pinch of garlic powder
Pinch of onion powder
Pinch of oregano
¼ teaspoon chili powder
Cayenne pepper to taste (optional)
Salt & pepper to taste

To prepare,

Brown ground beef in a small frying pan, add onions and garlic. Stir in tomatoes and water. Add spices and simmer slowly until liquid is reduced. The longer it cooks, the more tender and flavorful.

Add a little water as needed to prevent burning. Serve with chopped green onion or tomato garnish and salt and pepper to taste. Makes 1 serving.

And your fun food fact for today is…

Botanically, the tomato is really a fruit – not a vegetable. And, it’s a good natural source of vitamins C and A. The tomato just doesn’t add incredible flavor to your meals – it has some pretty fascinating beauty benefits, too! This article has 7 interesting beauty uses you might not be aware of.
